Jul 21, 2013 · Oct 16, 2011. 5,547. Route 27. I have previously owned an Hk91 and a PTR91 Scout Carbine w/ the rail. I found it much easier to retain a zero with the rail on the PTR than the claw mount on my Hensoldt. The PTR was also considerably more accurate, but that is another discussion.

A competent TIG welder could put on in place if a part can be sourced. Removing the rail would take someone with the skills of a jeweler to cut off the welds without cutting into the receiver. And then some real metal working skills would be required to remove the remaining weld lines.
