Marlin 336 serial numbers by date

Hello fellow members, I have acquired a Marlin 36, 30 30 serial number C/c 4789. I am trying to find out the difference in the c's in the serial numbers. I have found out that small c was made in 1945 and large cap C was made in 1946. According to Brophy the first var. was case colored, second var. was blued, mine has a blued finish.

Upon further research, I have come to the (somewhat informed) conclusion that the MG 30A started the dating system with the two number prefix subtracted from 100, in 1973. The 30A's manufactured before that time had the same dating system as the Marlin 336 - the first two numbers of the serial no. being the year date of manufacture.1 8 9 5 G U N N E R.C O M.
