I live in Indiana which is almost between zone 5 and zone 6 (see the last link regarding plant hardiness zones) which is a decent zone for outdoor growing. However, due to my living situation and me being paranoid, Id rather work and grow somewhere more secure. Thats the reason Im hoping using fresh outdoor soil will work.
