I hope this doesn't call down the lightening, but my only M-1 thumb came years ago in ROTC about the first or second time I handled the Garand. I didn't keep enough pressure on the bolt handle when I depressed the receiver mechanism (somebody on here said it felt like a bear trap slamming shut -- yeah, sortakinda).
