Pretty amazing to see this delightful monument (to the prime movers behind the Northern Pacific rail route) stuck in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming. Well worth a 15 minute detour from the Interstate to observe this highest point marker where the railway crossed the divide.

It’s the same exit that accesses the popular Vedawoo climbing and hiking area north of the interstate. Turning south, however, will take you to the Ames Monument in just a few minutes. The exit also is the last pavement visitors making their way to the monument will drive on.
